A brunch party!!
A weekend with a lot of new recipes for a brunch party at our place. This post does not have recipes but is just to gloat about my first ever brunch party!!
I highly recommend you try the concept if you like entertaining. Read along and if something catches your fancy, feel free to reach out and I’ll be happy to share tips, tricks and recipes.
I love my breakfasts' and absolutely love trying new brunch places. I think, amongst the luxuries of living in Melbourne, is that you never run out of options to try for anything including brunch places. It does help when your partner enjoys driving you around. It all started when one of my colleagues at work introduced me to breakfast cocktails at one of our breakfast catch-ups. A new door opened for me that day. Breakfast was not only about Coffee and muffins anymore but cocktails too!! and let’s face it, there’s really no bad time for a good cocktail.
Hence, started my journey to organize one for all my foodie friends. The goal was to have as many colours in the spread as possible and the challenge to try as many new recipes as possible and a must have was my signature dish: poori sabji. The most important criteria was: it had to be perfect.
I am not a perfectionist but my husband sure is. And you know what people say, after few years husband and wife start to look alike. If I can be even 10% of what he is, I will say that I am the best person in the whole world. Enough about him. Let’s talk about my brunch party.
There was an excitement of organizing and a little anxiety of making it an amazing experience for everyone. I started with a brainstorm to decide what I want to make. OMG! The list was seemingly endless. It was much harder than I thought to decide on a few items. I made a layout plan on a sheet of paper to see what I wanted (of course my tiny brain wouldn’t have thought of it, it was his idea again). Was it per the plan, of course not! We are agile, we write stories and they change to make the product better J (Nerd IT joke!)
Hence, began the shopping after work on a Friday. It all started with part of the preparation on the Friday. So Friday was a trial and error day with carrots, cucumbers flying all over the place. Chopping up the watermelon and baking my tarts. Prawns and salmon had to look pretty when served and everything had to be color coordinated with mimosas and champagne.
As is to be expected, there were challenges at every step e.g. the tiny glasses (shot glasses), I didn’t have enough of. The drinks had to have layers. OMG I have only 6 glasses with same size. Husband goes seriously? Nah, it has to 2 layers. Came to rescue a friend who said I have more glasses. There we go and guess what they were slightly smaller than the one's I had. I have layers on my glasses.
The D day arrived. Everything looked organized to my best ability. Friends started flowing in. They were awestruck with the spread that we (come on, the man deserve’s some credit) had put together. It was a big hit and friends loved it so much that they decided to have lunch, dinner and drinks after breakfast with us J
What can be a better gift to the host then knowing that their guests had the best time in world and in their own words "felt like they were eating at a professional food spot!!"
